The Spring 2015 meeting was kindly organised by Will Thomas and colleagues from Exeter, a city with a strong SWOC history that we have not visited since Daniel Chan hosted in 2006. The venue was a sunny Sandy Park stadium – home to the Exeter chiefs who were out practicing early (before even the most keen of the reps had arrived to set up) prior to their crunch game against Sale.

There was an excellent turnout – with trainees from Peninsula, Bristol and South Wales, and (for the first time in the memory of those present) of consultants from every NHS trust from Cheltenham and Swindon to Truro. Many longstanding members were present, including all those who have held the title “SWOC President” (Peter Peace, Chris Curwen, David Bracey and Tony Ward – although sadly not in a photo together).

We were treated to 21 high-quality presentations from trainees (from nearly 40 submissions), with the prize for the best paper awarded to Jon Kosy for his treatise on the Anterolateral ligament of the knee (seen below receiving certificate from Will Thomas).

The meeting turnout was undoubtedly swelled by the presence of Prof Colin Howie, current BOA President, who led a presentation and questions session on the BOA’s approach to commissioning, alongside Ian Winson (Vice President elect) and Grey Giddins (Council member).
